Youngsters pulls out all the stops at 'Decadance'
published: Tuesday | June 26, 2007

Krista Henry, Staff Reporter

In motion Dance and Fitness Centre hosted 'Decadance' at the Courtleigh Auditorium, in New Kingston, last Sunday evening.

A packed crowd came to watch the dancing, humour and talent of the young entertainers. Various age groups from the very young to nimble teenagers showcased dance pieces from hip hop, jazz, classical and more to the parents and well wishers gathered in the auditorium.

The first group of youngsters really set the pace for the others who followed. Dressed in the national colours, they 'willie' bounced to Voicemail's Dancing Fever.

A standout performance came from the girls and boys break-dance class. When the young boys came out 'full of attitude' on stage and posed for the audience, their was an eruption of cheers from the crowd. The boys break danced then scurried off stage leaving the girls to pick up the routine. One little girl split and 'dutty' wined to the delight of many.

Another outstanding performance was delivered by the group that performed to the hip-hop song Walk It Out - the group showed good coordination as they paired off and faced off with their own hip-hop moves.

There was also one or two interpretative dances such as 'Queens of the Jungle' and two tap dance pieces as well. Another interesting piece was the Can Can, in which the girls were clad as French maidens.

Show stopper

The In Motions dance troupe was a show stopper, as the older group performed to a good mix of genres before a brief intermission. The various costumes throughout the night gave flavour to the show. Each set of performance pieces had a different and specifically themed costume, all of which were bright, glittery and appealing.

After many more performances, it was time for the finale entitled, 'A Time To Dance'. Starting off on a sombre note, the girls came out in white and performed to a mixture of genres. Then, bringing all the dancers on stage, they gave their last bow and exited. Overall,, it was a fun, oftentimes a display as the younger kids mixed up their moves. The dancing was generally very good, showing off the talent of a well-coordinated team.
