Dancehall nuisance
published: Tuesday | June 26, 2007

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Although Beenie Man, Macka Diamond and company might find it hard to believe, most of us would rather be fast asleep in our beds, than be disturbed by their noise at 4:00 in the morning. Because of their stage show at Caymanas Track on June 23, most of us in Independence City and Meadowvale were deprived of our night's rest to which we are fully entitled.

We are absolutely fed up of the lack of consideration shown by dancehall artistes whenever they perform in Portmore, especially at Caymanas Track. We have the same problem each time the FAME Road Party is held there and the noise always gets progressively worse. This noise is so horrific that it causes the windows in our homes to vibrate. We have seen dancehall music and culture contribute to the erosion of our value system for more than 20 years, so most of our teenagers think it is acceptable to be loud, coarse, promiscuous and violent.

We are calling on Mayor George Lee and Millicent Lynch of Caymanas Track not to allow these people to use the venue for any more stage shows because they have absolutely no respect for the people of Portmore. We are absolutely fed up with their disgusting behaviour and, at the very least, deserve a public apology from the organisers of this event.

I am, etc.,

KAREN HENRY
