US Embassy helps students gear up for college life
published: Tuesday | June 26, 2007

The Embassy of the United States of America, Office of Public Affairs, will host a pre-departure seminar for Jamaican students who have been admitted to a college or university in the U.S. for the 2007/2008 academic year.

The event will be held on Friday, July 6, at the Hilton Kingston hotel in New Kingston, starting at 11:30 a.m.

The seminar, dubbed 'The More You Know Before You Go', is designed to assist students in the transition to the U.S. and the country's system of education.

"It will provide academic and cultural information for Jamaican students in order to better prepare them for study in the U.S.," the embassy said in a release. "Information on issues surrounding student visas will also be available."

A panel of Jamaican students currently enrolled in U.S. colleges, as well as recent graduates, will be on hand to share their social, cultural and academic experiences and answer questions.

Students and parents interested in attending the event should contact the Office of Public Affairs Information Resource Centre at 702-6172 or 702-6163 to confirm their attendance.
