The Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI) is offering a summer programme for teenagers and young adults between the ages of 12 to 20 years. The aim of the course is to introduce young Jamaicans to the maritime field and to impart skills that will be useful in many vocations.The courses will be staged in two groups, each lasting five days. The first group will be from July 9-13 and second group from July 16-20. The venue will be the CMI at Palisadoes Park (near the Norman Manley Airport) and the activities to be covered include:
Navigation
Seamanship (including knots, splices, etc.)
Safety training
Virtual boating experience
Marine engineering
Conversational Spanish
Social graces, and more
Another part of this great experience will be a picnic and beach trip to Lime Cay under professional supervision.
Early enrolment in the CMI summer programme is being encouraged because space is limited. Participants need to indicate their preferred five-day period (July 9-13 or July 16-20) and should note that accommodation and meals are not included in the programme cost of $10,000.
